What core drilling is for

Core drilling produces clean, cylindrical openings through concrete, masonry or asphalt — the bore comes out as a single removable core, leaving a finish-quality circular hole.

The vast majority of MEP penetrations in UAE high-rises are core-drilled rather than cut: faster, cleaner, less disturbing to the surrounding structure. Liberty drills 1,500+ cores per month across Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

Common applications

  • HVAC penetrations — supply, return, refrigerant and condensate drops through floors and walls
  • Plumbing risers — DWV, water supply, fire risers
  • Electrical & data trays — power conduit drops, low-voltage cabling, fibre runs
  • Structural anchors — chemical anchor holes, cast-in dowel locations
  • Concrete sampling — cube and core extraction for compressive testing
  • Manhole & utility tap-ins — sleeves through buried infrastructure

How we drill

  1. Mark up. Engineer marks bore centres from MEP drawings, verifies clearance to walls, beams, columns.
  2. GPR scan. Each bore location scanned for rebar, PT cables, conduits — repositioned within tolerance if a clash is found.
  3. Anchor & align. Drill rig anchored to floor or wall, laser-aligned to mark.
  4. Drill. Diamond bit advanced under controlled water flow. Spent water vacuum-extracted into containment drums.
  5. Extract core. Cylindrical core lifted out, hole inspected, cleaned, capped if not for immediate use.
  6. Document. Each bore photographed and logged with location, depth, encountered conditions.

FAQs

Common questions

Everything you need to know before calling us.

Can you drill through post-tensioned slabs?

Yes — but every bore must be GPR-scanned beforehand. Nicking a PT cable is catastrophic; we relocate the bore (within tolerance) before any drilling.

Is core drilling dusty?

No — we drill wet with closed-loop water capture. The hole and surrounding surface come out clean.

What is the largest bore you can drill?

600mm in a single pass. Larger sleeves are achieved by stitch-drilling overlapping cores or by switching to wall-saw cutout.

Can you drill into occupied floors?

Yes. We use battery-powered rigs, low-noise water capture, and night shifts where required.
